1. Euro-Mediterranean Conference of Sustainable Cities and Towns, Seville, 21-23 January 1999. Organised by the World Federation of United Cities and the City of Seville. Presentation of MIO-ECSDE work on SUDECIR, etc. by Prof. M. Scoullos.

2. 1st MEDTAC (Interim Mediterranean Regional Technical Advisory Committee Meeting, Marseille, 24-25 January 1999. Organised by IME. Contribution by Prof. M. Scoullos.

3. Priorities for Development and Environment in the Mediterranean: A Roundtable Discussion, among the Mediterranean NGO Networks and the European Commission, Brussels, 28 January 1999. Organised by WWF-EPO. Participation by Prof. M. Scoullos.

4. Regional Training Workshop on Conducting Public Participation in Environmental Projects, Cairo, 29/2 - 2/3 1999. Executive Bureau member Y. Nouri participated in the Workshop.

5. Meeting organised by the EU (DG VIII, IA, IB, V), 1-3/3/1999, Brussels. A. Veneti attended the meeting with the purpose of communicating with the Commission on a number of issues relating to the specific departments of the DGs.

6. International Sustainable Development Research Conference, 24-27/3/1999, London. The Chairman representing MIO-ECSDE made a presentation at the meeting.

7. Presentation of SUDECIR at the International Sustainable Development Research Conference, University of Leeds, 25-26 March 1999. Contribution by Prof. M. Scoullos.

8. Environmental Civil Forum, Stuttgart, 13-15 April 1999 (NGOs contribution to the Euro-Mediterranean Ministers' of Foreign Affairs Conference - BARCELONA III), Stuttgart, 15-16 April 1999. Attended by Prof. M. Scoullos and other members of the Board.

9. La Fete en Mer, Marseille/Ajaccio/Bastia, 26-29 April 1999. Organised by MARINU, the Local Authorities of Corsica and Marseille, the French Ministry of Environment and UNESCO. Presentation was made by MIO-ECSDE staff member Ms. A. Veneti.

10. Environmental Education and Training in Europe, DGXI, Brussels, 3-4 May 1999. The Conference was organised by DG XI. MIO-ECSDE was represented by Prof. Scoullos whose presentation was on "Education for Environment and Sustainability: International and Euro-Mediterranean Experience" and Ms A. Veneti whose presentation was on "The Use of Networks in Environmental Education - A Euro-Mediterranean Experience".

11. RAMSAR Convention Meeting, Costa Rica, 8-18 May 1999. Organised by RAMSAR. Attended by Prof. M. Scoullos.

12. Mediterranean Environment - The Women's Perspective, Athens, 26-30 May 1999. Organised by the Association of Women of the Mediterranean Region. Presentation by A. Veneti.

13. Meeting of National Monitors of EASW, 11-12/6/1999, Luxembourg. A. Veneti contributed to the workshop presenting the outcome of the work relating to the project done to date.

14. 3rd MEDTAC Meeting, Malta, 4 July 1999. Organised by MEDTAC. Attended by Prof. M. Scoullos and Dr. E. Adly who presented the Arab experience.

15. 2nd General Assembly of the Mediterranean Water Network, Malta, 5 July 1999. Organised by the Mediterranean Water Network. Contribution by Prof. M. Scoullos.

16. Euro-Mediterranean Water Directors Meeting, Malta 6-7 July 1999. Attended by Prof. M. Scoullos as the only NGO representative accommodated in the official Greek Delegation in order to be allowed to take the floor. This was a crucial contribution, which facilitated the NGO participation in Rome meeting which followed.

17. International Workshop on the Protection of Salinas, Samos, 31/8-2/9 1999. International Conference organised by the University of the Aegean and the international journal "Global Nest". The Chairman participated and made a proposal for the inclusion of salinas in the list of Natura 2000 sites as well as the Specially Protected Areas under the relevant protocol of the Barcelona Convention.

18. Foreign Policy Talks: The Mediterranean Region - A Challenge for Europe, Vienna, 14-17 October. The meeting was addressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria. The participants were very distinguished political analysts and Prof. Scoullos was the only invited representative of environmental NGOs. The Chairman prepared and presented a paper entitled "The Evolution of European Environmental Policies in the Mediterranean".

19. EEB Workshop on Sustainable Tourism, Brussels, November 1999. The Chairman and other members of the Executive Bureau attended the Workshop, contributing the MIO-ECSDE experience.

20. Meeting with Environment Commissioner Ms. Margot Wallstrom, Brussels, November 19th 1999. The Chairman of MIO-ECSDE, Prof. M. Scoullos attended the meeting and also had the opportunity to have a brief discussion individually with the Commissioner on the MIO-ECSDE priorities and the Mediterranean scene in general.

21. Consultation meeting with UNEP-Regional Office for Europe, 2-4/12/1999. Mr. E. Constantianos reoresentd MIO-ECSDE at the meeting which offered the opportunity for contacts with Mr. Toepfer, the UN Conventions (Bern, Bonn, CITES, Bazel, etc.) and the GRID Project.

22. International Conference and Exhibition on Solid Waste Management in the Mediterranean and Arab Regions, Cairo, 6-8 December 1999. Attended by the Chairman, the Members of the Executive Bureau and 2 members of the staff (A. Roniotes and E. Constantianos)

23. Presentation and diffusion of the results of EASW (European Awareness Local Scenario Workshop), 6-17/12/1999, India (new Delhi, Agra, Patna). Staff member A. Veneti contributed to the workshops as National Monitor.

24. MEDTAC meeting in Montpellier, 18/12/1999. The Chairman contributed to the very crucial preparatory meeting for the up-coming World Water Forum in the Hague (March 2000).
