Elections
As
in every AGM the Chairman explained the system followed
for the elections of the Members of the Executive Bureau (EB).
Half of the Members are renewed every year with a two-year
term of office each.
The
EB seats that were up for renewal were those of Tunisia,
Morocco, France and Greece. The EEB, which holds an ex
officio seat on the EB will decide who to appoint
after its next AGM (2 December 2000). Till then Mr. J.
Ribas will remain on the MIO-ECSDE EB representing the EEB
and the new person will automatically take his place.
There
were two nominations for France: Mr. Jean Doucet of URVN
who has been representing the French Members on the MIO-ECSDE
EB for the past three years and the President of a
relatively new Member Organisation U Marinu: Mr. Geronimi.
Ballots were distributed to the voting Members who had
also paid their Membership fees and the results of the
election were in favor of Mr. Doucet (URVN).
Concerning
the other nominations, Prof. Youssef Nouri was nominated
for Tunisia and was unanimously elected. Prof. Mohammed
Ftouhi was nominated for Morocco and was also unanimously
elected. Prof. Michael Scoullos was nominated for Greece
and he too was unanimously elected.
From
the newly elected EB Prof. Scoullos was individually and
unanimously elected as Chairman and Prof. Nouri
individually and unanimously elected as Co-Chairman.
Therefore,
the MIO-ECSDE EB for 2000-2001 is as follows:

Under
any other business three points were raised to be discussed item:
(a)
The AGM decided unanimously to give the “Draft
Resolution for the Protection of the Marathon Schinias
Wetland Threatened by the Construction of an Olympic
Rowing Center” its full support. It is a proposal by
MIO-ECSDE Member Elliniki Etairia supported by other Greek
MIO-ECSDE Members.
(b) MIO-ECSDE should send a letter stating to the
organizing committee of the Marseilles Civil Forum its
disagreement with (i) the procedure followed in deciding
who will participate, (ii) the restriction of
participation, (iii) the unbalanced representation in the
meeting and (iv) the date of the Forum being other than
the previous day of the Ministers meeting. He will state
that MIO-ECSDE may re-consider its participation. The
Secretariat was to draft the letter and send it as soon as
possible.
(c)
The need of all documents being translated also
into French as the French-speaking Membership face serious
problems in following what is going on in MIO-ECSDE.
Several Members of the Plenary added that they would
eventually like to see this happening with the Arabic
language as well.
Two
formal Executive Bureau Meetings (EBM) took place, one
before the 5th AGM and one afterwards.
